Family, being the conceptual catalyst to process emotions, led me to create a piece about my grandmother’s passing. I dealt with this strong emotion that I desired to convey and capture. A Burning Memory is a piece where I visually represent Alzheimer’s disease, the deterioration of the mind and memories. As the face sculpture becomes increasingly unrecognizable, the music gradually distorts melody and time which parallels the deterioration of the sculpture. The lego sculptures which are placed inside of the head are a representation of childhood memories. While my grandmother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's, her childhood memories remained intact even though she could not recognize me.
