The inspiration behind my Kinetic Sculpture was 1800’s Siberian bear-hunting armor. Consisting of large spikes all over the armor, it served the purpose of protecting the hunter from a bear attack. I became intrigued by the idea of protecting oneself by hurting the external things around us. This notion was also true of how people often protect their insecurities or emotions by being hurtful to others, acting as an armor. The spikes and armor being my inspiration, I began to create a geometrical sculpture that could be wearable. I wanted the sculpture to be kinetic with the arm movement as an armor should be. So I used tips of the skewer and glue to create an expanding and shrinking hinge mechanism. The sculpture is ergonomic to human wrist movement in order to create a fluid motion.
