A new way to wake up
Waking up in the morning doesn't have to be so "alarming". Sol is a lamp simulates a natural sunrise, offering a calmer way to start your day.
Tools: Solidworks, Blender Cycles, Arduino, C++, 3D printing

How do you use it?
Sol is meant to live on the nightstand, so it can easily wake up the user when activated.
Through an app interface, user can set the time and duration of which the lamp will light up

Why a Sunrise Lamp?
Waking up through an exposure to light, especially in the morning, is shown to regulate your body's circadian rhythm. This provides for a more natural and calming way to wake up, contrasting the startling and agitating phone alarm.

Moodboarding
I wanted users to make subconscious associations of a sunrise when using Sol. It mimcs the beautiful process of the sun peaking through the mountains, hence inspiring the the glowing sphere peaking through the shade.

CAD Iterations
I experimented with several shade forms ranging from sharp geometric forms to soft organinc forms. Due to wanting the users to feel calm during the process, I finalized my shade design with soft and curved edges.

Fabrication
Soldered internal hardware components such as RTC and Micro Arduino. Coded software to enable the lamp to fade in on the correct alarm time. Fabricated the device exterior through 3D printing.
